Legacy Project: Expansion Restraints Solution
Commissioned in 2019, PurposeEnergy designed and delivered a multi-tank, expandable anaerobic digestion system to support Smuttynose Brewery’s operations on their 14 acre property in Hampton, New Hampshire.
The system was purpose-built to manage the brewery’s high-strength organic waste streams and integrates anaerobic digestion with ultrafiltration for discharged waste safely to the municipal sewer system while significantly reducing the facility’s environmental footprint.
Today, the value of that forward-looking infrastructure is even more evident. Smuttynose has since joined Mass. Bay Brewing to form Barrel One Collective, a larger New England craft beer platform.

PurposeEnergy is an established US-based renewable fuels and biogas specialist focused on waste solutions for the food and beverage industries. Over the last 15 years, PurposeEnergy has developed, owned, and operated multiple projects that convert organic waste streams to biogas for use in industrial processes, conversion to renewable electricity or refinement to Renewable Natural Gas (“RNG”).
