Legacy Project: Water Reclaim Solution

At Kona Brewing Company in Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi, PurposeEnergy designed and delivered a dedicated industrial anaerobic digestion system to manage wastewater flows from this 100,000-barrel-per-year brewery.

• The brewery could not be built at scale with the available municipal water allocation.
• PurposeEnergy engineered a customized solution to reclaim more than 80% of process water.
• This water reuse made it possible for the brewery to increase production capacity by 250% and achieve a commercially viable scale.
• The industrial anaerobic system has been operating successfully since 2020 with a working volume of approximately 250,000 gallons.
